From conflict to compromise: Negotiating peace in the Nagorno-Karabakh region

After more than 30 years of conflict, Armenia and Azerbaijan have signed a historic peace agreement. The aforementioned allowed for the end of violent clashes and displacement in the contested region. However, this agreement, which can be described as fragile, reshapes regional dynamics with the presence of Russia and Turkey.



Nagorno-Karabakh holds strategic value, which coupled with its troubled history, presents only a few of the challenge ahead. Finally, while the peace agreement is a positive development, the underlying tensions which are exacerbated by the competing international interests pose additional questions that need to be reviewed.
