The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by China in 2013, is an ambitious global infrastructure project aimed at improving trade and connectivity by building roads, railways, and other transport networks. Inspired by the ancient Silk Road, it has achieved some successes, including creating special economic zones and major projects in countries like Indonesia and Ethiopia. The BRI is expected to lift millions out of poverty by 2030. However, it has also drawn criticism for leaving participating countries burdened with massive debt, raising concerns about "debt-trap diplomacy." Some countries, like Sri Lanka, have struggled to repay loans, leading to financial instability. While some nations benefit, others risk economic hardship, making the overall impact of the BRI debatable.
