Railway Revolution: How Rail Baltica is changing the Baltic States and the EU

Updated: Feb 25

Rail Baltica is a revolutionary 870-kilometer rail link between Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and high-speed European tracks. The project promises socio-economic benefits, such as higher GDP, trade, and increased labor productivity. Rail Baltica will also help the EU's green ambition by reducing fossil fuel use, presenting a substitute for long flights, and therefore lowering emissions. Geopolitically, it will also foster regional safety, most importantly in the Suwałki Corridor, while pushing for EU integration. Despite being problematic like environmental impact and lack of certainty regarding finance, Rail Baltica represents a transformative investment for the Baltic States and the EU with the advantages of economic growth, protection of the environment, and stronger regional stability.
